T-Shirt Fit Guide: How a Tee Should Actually Fit – The Definitive Guide to Shoulder Seams, Chest Fit, Body Length, and Sleeve Proportion

Most Men Have Never Worn a Tee That Actually Fits.

Not because they don’t care. Because nobody told them what ‘fits’ actually means.

A tee that fits correctly is not tight. It’s not baggy. It’s not too long or too short. It sits at specific points on your body – shoulder seam at the shoulder edge, chest with room to move, hem at the right proportion, sleeves at mid-bicep – and the result is a tee that looks intentional rather than accidental.

Most men are wearing tees that fail on at least two of these four points. The shoulder seam hangs off the shoulder. Or the chest pulls across. Or the hem hits too low. Or the sleeves are too long.

This guide fixes that. Four fit points. Clear standards. Specific guidance for Indian body proportions.

Fit Point 1: The Shoulder Seam – The Most Important Indicator

The shoulder seam is the single most important fit indicator on any tee – whether it’s the Oversized Classic T-Shirt, the Ringer T-Shirt, or the Oversized Raglan. Get this right and the rest of the tee looks better. Get it wrong and nothing else matters.

Where the shoulder seam should sit

The shoulder seam should sit exactly at the edge of your shoulder – at the bony point where your shoulder ends and your arm begins (the acromion). Not 1 cm inside it. Not 1 cm outside it. Exactly at the edge.

What it looks like when it’s wrong

Shoulder seam hanging off the shoulder (too big): The seam sits 2–5 cm down your upper arm. The Classic T-Shirt looks oversized even if the chest fits. The sleeve hangs loose. The whole garment looks like it belongs to someone larger.
Shoulder seam pulled toward the neck (too small): The seam sits 1–2 cm inside the shoulder edge, toward the neck. The tee pulls across the chest and upper back. The armhole feels restrictive.

The shoulder seam test

Put on the tee. Stand straight. Look in a mirror (or have someone check). Find the bony point at the edge of your shoulder. The seam should be sitting directly on that point. If it’s not – the Classic T-Shirt doesn’t fit correctly at the shoulder, regardless of how the chest feels.

Why this matters more for Indian men

Indian men typically have narrower shoulders relative to chest circumference compared to Western body proportions. International brands size their shoulder seams for Western proportions – which means their tees often have shoulder seams that hang 1–2 cm off Indian shoulders even when the chest measurement matches. This is why Euphor sizes the Classic T-Shirt and Ringer T-Shirt shoulder seams specifically for Indian proportions.

Fit Point 2: Chest Fit – Room Without Pulling

How the chest should fit

The chest of the Oversized Classic T-Shirt should have room – but not excess room. You should be able to pinch 4–5 cm of fabric on each side of the chest when standing straight. This is the ‘ease’ – the room that allows you to move, breathe, and raise your arms without the tee pulling.

What it looks like when it’s wrong

Too tight across the chest: The fabric pulls horizontally across the chest when you stand straight. You can see the outline of your chest through the fabric. The tee looks like it’s straining.
Too loose across the chest: The fabric hangs away from your body. You can pinch more than 8–10 cm of fabric on each side. The tee looks shapeless.

The chest fit test

Put on the Classic T-Shirt. Stand straight. Pinch the fabric at the side of your chest (under your arm). 4–5 cm of pinchable fabric = correct fit. Less than 3 cm = too tight. More than 7–8 cm = too loose. Raise your arms above your head – the tee should lift but not pull.

GSM and chest fit

Heavier GSM fabric (220 GSM+ on the Classic T-Shirt) drapes differently from lighter fabric (130–150 GSM). A 220 GSM tee with the correct chest ease will look structured and intentional. A 130 GSM tee with the same chest ease will look thin and shapeless. This is one reason why GSM matters for fit – the fabric weight affects how the ease reads visually. The Terry Oversized Tee at 260 GSM will feel slightly stiffer – if between sizes, size up.

Fit Point 3: Body Length – The Proportion Rule

Where the hem should hit

The hem of the Classic T-Shirt should hit at a specific point relative to your trousers: it should cover the waistband completely and extend 5–10 cm below it. The hem should not be visible below the hem of an open jacket or overshirt worn on top.

What it looks like when it’s wrong

Too long: The hem hits at or below mid-thigh. The tee looks like a dress. Common with international brands sized for taller Western frames.
Too short: The hem barely covers the waistband. When you raise your arms, the tee rides up and exposes your waist.

The body length test

Put on the Classic T-Shirt with your usual trousers. Stand straight. Check where the hem hits. It should cover the waistband completely with 5–10 cm to spare. Raise your arms – the hem should not expose your waist.

Body length and height

Euphor calibrates body length for Indian height ranges (165–175 cm for most sizes). If you’re at the top of the height range for your size, the Classic T-Shirt may feel slightly short – consider sizing up for additional length.

Fit Point 4: Sleeve Length and Width – The Proportion Finish

Where the sleeve should hit

The sleeve of the Classic T-Shirt or Ringer T-Shirt should hit at mid-bicep – approximately halfway between your shoulder and your elbow. The sleeve should cover the top of your arm without reaching the elbow.

What it looks like when it’s wrong

Sleeve too long: The sleeve reaches toward or past the elbow. The tee looks oversized.
Sleeve too short: The sleeve barely covers the top of the arm. The tee looks undersized.
Sleeve too wide: The sleeve hangs loose and billows. Common in boxy-cut tees. Makes the arm look thin and the tee look shapeless.

The Complete Fit Check – 4 Points in 60 Seconds

Use this checklist every time you try on a Classic T-Shirt, Ringer T-Shirt, or Terry Oversized Tee:

1. Shoulder seam: Is it sitting exactly at the edge of my shoulder? ✅ Yes = correct. ❌ No = wrong size.
2. Chest fit: Can I pinch 4–5 cm of fabric on each side? ✅ Yes = correct. ❌ Less = too tight. ❌ More = too loose.
3. Body length: Does the hem cover my waistband with 5–10 cm to spare? ✅ Yes = correct. ❌ No = wrong length.
4. Sleeve length: Does the sleeve hit at mid-bicep? ✅ Yes = correct. ❌ Past elbow = too long. ❌ Above mid-bicep = too short.

All four correct = the tee fits. Any one wrong = reconsider the size.

How Fit Changes with GSM

220 GSM (Classic T-Shirt, Ringer T-Shirt): The standard. The fabric has body and structure. The ease reads correctly – not too generous, not too tight. The tee holds its shape through the day.
260 GSM (Terry Oversized Tee): Heavyweight. The fabric has significant structure. The ease feels slightly less generous because the fabric is stiffer. Best for cooler weather and layering. If between sizes, size up.

Fit for Different Occasions – When to Adjust

Casual daily wear: Your measured size on the Classic T-Shirt. The relaxed fit works for every casual occasion.
Smart casual (office, dinner, rooftop): Your measured size or one size down. A slightly closer fit reads more intentional in smart casual settings.
Layering under a hoodie or jacket: Your measured size. The relaxed fit accommodates a layer on top without pulling.
Intentional oversized look: One to two sizes up on the Classic T-Shirt or Oversized Raglan.

Frequently Asked Questions – T-Shirt Fit Guide

Q: How should a t-shirt fit at the shoulders?
A: The shoulder seam should sit exactly at the edge of your shoulder. This applies to the Classic T-Shirt, Ringer T-Shirt, and Oversized Raglan alike.

Q: How tight should a t-shirt be?
A: Not tight – relaxed. You should be able to pinch 4–5 cm of fabric on each side of the chest on the Classic T-Shirt.

Q: Does GSM affect how a t-shirt fits?
A: Yes. The Terry Oversized Tee at 260 GSM will feel slightly stiffer than the Classic T-Shirt at 220 GSM. If between sizes on the Terry Tee, size up.

Q: Should I size up or down for a relaxed fit?
A: For a genuine oversized effect, size up 1–2 sizes on the Classic T-Shirt. For a closer fit, size down 1 size. For the intended relaxed fit, use your measured size.
